Poem: THIS IS US

Poem: THIS IS US

Chaeli Mycroft, the winner of the International Children’s Peace Prize 2011, founded the Chaeli Campaign with her sister and three friends. Within the Pay it Forward ambassadors program the Chaeli Campaign trains children between the ages of nine and fourteen on their communication skills, leadership qualities and network capacities. These skills can help the children to make positive changes in their own community.

THIS IS US!!!!

Fasten your seat-belts because its going to be a long ride
Pondering service of thee untitled answers
We are bilingual
Every shot that rang was a sign of endurement
Even though we ought to be ashamed , shame doesn't come round here
You can hear echos from the streets
the streets remain hollow because of absent fathers , gender discrimination and race differences

Diversity is our pride
We are shades of different colors
But we are one human race
We might be running against each other sometimes
but we will finish it together trust me
Round here We ARE EMPERORS
Round here WE ARE EMPRESSES
From our hair to our feet
We are uniquely designed
I feel connected to each lock they remind me of a time before me  when black wasn't just HIP HOP
Trace the dreadlocks back to the Mau-Mau
Far short of Africa and the Nazareth's
Children sleep while Rasta man walk
From our eyes to our toes
We speak no lies
Tracing the texture of my skin back to the
Mpondo tribe of great warriors and beautiful women

"It takes a women to raise a child "
And that is what raised us
From the 4 corners our RDP homes
to the grounds of our school
W learnt the essence of family
IT doesn't matter which race

Round Here
No one  can save but yourself
Round here
what doesn't kill you YOU SCARES THE LIVING DEMONS OUT OF YOU
But we survive

You can call us heroes or sheroes
It doesn't matter
I AM AN AFRICAN
You can hear it
From the way i talk
The way i drag on words and the way i click my tongue
From the way i dress and walk i am a Capetonian
From the way i carry myself and my academics
I am from the Groenvlei family  ONCE A GROENVLEI LEARNER ALWAYS A GROENVLEI LEARNER
